Plant species over-occupancy indicates river valleys are natural corridors for migration

چکیده
River valleys are considered natural corridors for migration of plant species; however, there is a lack studies confirming higher colonisation rates species in these areas. We compare richness between ancient and recent forests (developed during after the nineteenth century) those located river valley with outside valley. hypothesise that, close to river, will be associated forests, thus indicating rate. The study area includes parts Elbe Valley landscape Czech Republic. sampled an equal number (20/20), but lying at different distances from river. used generalised linear models test effect distance dependence upon forest continuity (recent/ancient forest) on two categories, i.e. overall richness. Outside valley, was whereas comparable. In as well forests. Recent were more saturated by than that rate higher. These results confirm importance species.

Corridors increase plant species richness at large scales.
Habitat fragmentation is one of the largest threats to biodiversity. Landscape corridors, which are hypothesized to reduce the negative consequences of fragmentation, have become common features of ecological management plans worldwide. Despite their popularity, there is little evidence documenting the effectiveness of corridors in preserving biodiversity at large scales. Using a large-scale re...
متن کاملriver-valleys as an intra-city natural feature
intra-city natural structures have always had a key role in creating sustainable urban greenspaces. adapting to natural features and relating the intra-city greenspaces to such natural structures as river-valleys, hillsides, lakes and forests, guarantee the endurance, sustainability and longevity of the natural quality of city. this paper looks at intra-city natural structures which have underg...

Iran has seasonal rivers because of dry climate, low rainfall and different topography. These river- valleys have main role in forming, genesis, and sustainability of human settlements and provide different ecological services. The main services include beauty, store of green spaces, water supply, reduce and create temperature differences, local air flow and natural ventilation which are part o...
متن کاملSite-occupancy of bats in relation to forested corridors
Although use of corridors by some wildlife species has been extensively examined, use by bats is poorly understood. From 1 June to 31 August (2004~200S), we used Anabat II detectors to examine bat activity and species occupancy relative to forested corridors on an intensively managed forest landscape in southern South Carolina, USA. We compared bat activity among corridor interiors, corridor ed...
متن کاملProtecting Migration Corridors: Challenges and Optimism for Mongolian Saiga
Migrations are an important ecological phenomena rapidly declining throughout the world [1]. Within many ungulate populations, migration is a polymorphic trait; animals can cover either long or short distances, pass across broad swaths of land such as those of caribou (Rangifer tarandus) and wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus), or squeeze through bottlenecks as narrow as 120 meters as described ...
